old court house square
We are excited to announce that, after two years of planning, work will begin on the Court House Grounds renovation project during the week of July 7.
The project will be executed by two esteemed local contractors, Robert L. Faulkner & Son, Inc. and Garrett Landscapes, who will work in close collaboration with renowned landscape architect Arthur Bartenstein of ABL Landscape Architecture. Their combined expertise ensures a thoughtful and respectful approach to the site’s historical significance. The project’s executive committee will also hold regular meetings with the contractors to ensure a continuous channel of communication with the local community about the progress of the rehabilitation.
For additional details, please see our press release from Wednesday, July 2.

project update
At the start, the new Veterans Memorial site will be excavated, and then the existing memorial will be dismantled, with all plaques and stonework safely stored. Once the site is ready, prep work for the re-positioned memorial will begin 25 feet to the north, in front of the old Court House. The memorial will then be reconstructed in the new location.
Safety fencing will eventually be set up around the areas that are under construction. A couple of parking spaces on Main Street will be restricted so that equipment can be safely accessed in the area. The sidewalk will likely be narrowed for pedestrians at some point until the memorial has been moved to its new location. Details will be posted here as we learn more.
The rest of the grounds will remain untouched until the trees are removed in September or early October. We will list specific dates here once we get closer, and in advance of the start date of this phase.
Excavation of the balance of the grounds will then begin. Fencing will be moved into the area, delineating safe pedestrian access to offices and apartments while work is ongoing.
