If you have like the way Downtown Lexington is looking and feeling these days – more events, more restaurants, more nightlife, more greenery and benches and things to do and see – you are seeing the work of MAIN STREET LEXINGTON in action. Our key accomplishments and achievements in 2019:
- All available downtown storefronts are filled or are about to be. Six new businesses have opened and another is scheduled to open this year.
- MSL has distributed over $2,000 to six downtown businesses for new or repaired signs and awnings.
- During W&L’s orientation week, we introduced over 300 first year students to downtown.
- We have kept over $40,000 in our local economy through our Gift Certificate program.
- MSL has partnered with Tourism to jointly market our downtown events and with their financial support we now have wayfinding signs at the I-81 and I-64 interchanges.
- The Freedom Food Festival was a successful collaboration between MSL, the Chamber, Tourism and the Southern Inn. The festival was able to provide proceeds to nine local non-profit organizations. Planning for the 2020 festival is underway!
- Our Design Committee continues to enhance the downtown with planters and alley improvements. Plans for 2020 include the triangle at the north entrance into town, a downtown mural and more beautification projects.
- The Economic Vitality Committee is working with the Chamber to update the Rockbridge 2020 website, and plans to purchase targeted ads through social media to attract young professionals to our area.
- We continue to invest in social media destination marketing for our downtown through our Promotions Committee, with financial support from merchants and MSL fundraisers.
