Lexington Collaboratory: Makerspace & Business Incubator
Collaboratory Coordinator
MAIN STREET LEXINGTON seeks a part-time contract Coordinator for the Lexington Collaboratory, beginning in November, 2017.
Background
The Lexington Collaboratory was launched in July, 2017, as an initiative of MAIN STREET LEXINGTON. Located in a 1300-square-foot space at 18 E. Nelson St. in Lexington, Virginia, the Collaboratory seeks to provide the equipment, resources, and community for hobbyists and entrepreneurs to make ideas come to life. The Collaboratory is building a tool library, installing cutting edge equipment, providing roster of events, and scheduling ongoing programming. Soon, it will begin to offer memberships to the public. It is also developing a pool of mentors to advise on business development and will be creating a small revolving loan fund to assist entrepreneurs.
At present, the Collaboratory relies on funding from the following sources: MSL reserves; MSL event funding; Grants; Collaboratory Programming Revenues. The organization seeks to move toward self-sustainability, decreasing or ceasing reliance on MSL and grants and greater reliance on programming and membership by October, 2018.
Thanks to a Building Entrepreneurial Economies grant from the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development’s Main Street Program announced in August 2017, MAIN STREET LEXINGTON has a modest amount of funding for one year to purchase equipment and hire assistance in carrying out the mission. While the job of Coordinator is intended to be ongoing, funding for the position is not guaranteed beyond one year.

- Maintaining the proper functioning of machines, equipment, tools, etc.
